As the Captain of the Cross Country Team at Santa Monica High School, you will be a pivotal leader responsible for inspiring and guiding team members towards success both on and off the field. This role requires dedication, strong communication skills, and a passion for cross country. Remember, it is a privilege to be made captain. You will work closely with coaches, team members, and school staff to ensure a positive and competitive team environment. We encourage all who are interested to apply!!

Key Responsibilities

Leadership: Lead by example through your commitment, work ethic, and sportsmanship during practices, meets, and events.
Team Motivation: Encourage team spirit, camaraderie, and unity among members to foster a supportive and inclusive team culture.
Training Coordination: Assist coaches in organizing and leading team practices, ensuring all members are prepared physically and mentally for competitions.
Communication: Act as a liaison between coaches and team members, conveying important information and ensuring everyone is informed and motivated.
Role Model: Demonstrate good sportsmanship, integrity, and respect for teammates, competitors, coaches, and officials at all times.

Qualifications:
– Current member of the cross country team at SAMOHI – either an incoming junior or senior
– Demonstrated interest in leadership and a strong sense of responsibility.
– Strong communication skills and willingness to build relationships with everyone on the team.
– Dependable and punctual, with the ability to commit to practices and events.

Interested candidates should submit a one page essay answering the prompt “Why do I want to be a Cross Country Captain next year? And how specifically do I plan to put the qualifications of Captain into practice?”

Coach Emily and Coach Katie will conduct in-person interviews the week of June 29th. Captains will be announced prior to Mammoth. Captains will only serve one season and we will run the process again for Track.
