Hello XC family –
lots going on this week!!!

Pasta night tomorrow at 5-7pm

Wednesday we will be having our first League Meet at Kenneth Hahn Park near Culver City.  If you went to the previous meets, this meet is lot smaller, but not necessarily easier (you will understand when you see The Hill). This meet is also a lot hotter than the previous evening races, so please make sure that your athlete drinks LOTS of water the day before the meet and the day of the meet.

 

WHEN: Wednesday 9/21/2016,  First race 2:30pm, last race at 5pm

 

WHERE: Kenneth Hahn Recreation Park, 4100 S. La Cienega Blvd, Los Angeles CA 90056 

 

Students will miss their period 4 and 5 (its a Wednesday) again and should let their teachers know in advance. They are responsible for any work missed but will be officially excused through the athletic dept. You will get a phone call but it will be excused in a few days.

 

BUS:  Buses will leave campus at 1pm.

I encourage parents to come and cheer and take kids home after the meet. We will only have one bus returning to SAMO. The bus should be back at SAMO at 7pm.

 

WHAT TO WEAR: All athletes must wear their school uniform! If your athlete needs a top or shorts- let me know !

SCHEDULE:
The meet schedule is as  follows. Note that sophomores run with JV in this meet:
JV boys- 2:30pm
Varsity girls – 3:00pm
Varsity boys – 3:30pm
JV girls  – 4:00pm
Frosh boys – 4:30pm
Frosh girls – 5pm 

 

PARKING:  In the location map below you will see two stars.  One created by the map in the middle of the green area and one at the end of the long road. The meet happens all the way at the top of the Kenneth Hahn Park where the second star is (the star more on the lower right). Once you pass the Entrance Booth keep driving and looping past the playground, past the community center, keep going up the hill until you cannot go anymore. There is some parking up there, but it is first come first serve.  If the upper parking lot is full there are lower parking lots too (you just have to walk back up the hill to the meet site).  Since this is a smaller meet there are no parking people escorting: you just have to figure it out yourselves!!

RESULTS, COURSE MAPS ETC:  Since this is a local meet we also don’t have fancy links to the course maps, real time chip results etc. 

 

Please come and support!  We would love water, bananas and bars for the athletes! Thank you Ms Navin for bringing water and food for the kids at Woodbridge!

Time for another exciting meet.   Please read everything carefully!

WHEN:  Friday September 16th

TO GET THERE: 

a) BUS (one way or both ways for the kids):  Bus leaves from SAMO at 1:15pm from 7th and Michigan gate. Bus returns to the same place around midnight.

– The bus needs to leave early to beat the Friday night traffic and to get the kids there in time for the earlier races (races start 4:30pm and go till 10pm).  The kids who are bussing will miss period 5.  You will get an email and a phone notification from the school about the missed period, but don’t worry, the athletic department will clear the absence.

b) PARENT DRIVES (one way or both ways): Please read the following carefully – lots of (confusing) details

– Parent can either drive the child one way or both ways.

– If you are driving your child TO the meet, your child needs to stay in school until the end of the 6th period.

– If you are driving your child any direction, please let Coach Fischer know before hand.

– Only a parent can drive their own child  because this meet is during the school week (no carpooling).

– Because of the same reason, children cannot drive themselves to this meet.

– if you are driving your child TO the meet, make sure to leave LOTS of time for the terrible Friday night traffic, accidents etc.  This meet is far!! Make sure to plan to be at meet site at least 1,5hrs before your child’s race time.  This is another huge meet so leave time to find parking, time to find the SAMO team etc.

– The child can also drive to the meet with the bus and come home with the parent. It is up to the parent to decide (but again let the coach know before hand if you are driving your child home).

Please bring food, water and WARM clothing (sweat pants and sweat shirts/jackets) especially those kids who are spending the whole day there.  And of course your UNIFORMS, RACING FLATS/SNEAKERS!

Here we go!! Our first exciting meet!! It is a special evening meet where we are running under the lights and where it will be cooler!  Below there is lots of info, please read carefully

WHEN:  Saturday 9/3/2016.  Bus leaves from SAMO at 2pm from 7th and Michigan gate. Bus returns to the same place around 11:30pm.

WHERE: Brookside Country Club at Rose Bowl

Parents can drive the kids to the race and/or drive them home from the race, but please let the Coach know before hand.  Also let the Coach know at least 24 hrs before IF your child cannot run the meet. If your child doesn’t have an athletic clearance he/she cannot run at this time. If you are driving your child to the race make sure you leave plenty time for traffic and parking issues.  The child needs to be at the meet site AT LEAST 1,5 hours before start time of the child’s meet.  When you get there your child needs to find the SAMO group .  This meet is huge so leave time for that too. First race is 4pm-> last race 10pm.

What a runner should WEAR (for new runners,freshmen or new to XC, seeing as old runners know what to wear): wear a white t-shirt or tank top and black or blue shorts.  New runners will be “earning” their right to wear the Samo XC uniform.

SAMO girls are in Red division and boys in Black division. Varsity girls are running in the last Seeded Varsity division
